Reliable display playback depends on more than the media-player software. The video file itself can determine whether a workstation runs smoothly or struggles with dropped frames, high CPU load or inconsistent playback.
Recommended baseline: MP4 with H.264
For general-purpose professional playback, MP4 using the H.264 codec is a strong baseline because it is widely supported and normally benefits from hardware decoding on modern GPUs.
H.265/HEVC can reduce file size at similar quality, but it requires compatible decoding support and should be tested on the actual workstation before deployment.
Use the required resolution
Prepare media close to the final screen or content-zone resolution instead of delivering unnecessarily large source files. Oversized media increases decoding and scaling work without improving the visible result when the display has fewer pixels.
Choose frame rate for the content
Thirty frames per second is suitable for many advertising, signage and information applications. Use 50 or 60 fps only when the motion content or project requirement benefits from it and the workstation has been tested accordingly.
Control bitrate
Extremely high bitrate files can create storage and decoding pressure. The goal is not the largest possible file; it is a visually clean file that plays reliably on the target workstation.
Test the real file before handover
Always test the final content on the actual PC, GPU and output configuration. A file that plays perfectly on an editor workstation may behave differently on the dedicated display player.
